March 8 – International Women’s Day

Since the 1900s March 8th has been a highlight for European countries.  I grew up in Russia, where March 8th meant my father and brother would get up extra early to bring flowers and cook breakfast for my mom and I.  That’s right, this is every girl’s holiday, not just to celebrate a spouse.  Even though we have lived here for years, we still celebrate it just the same.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women’s craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

Equality for women is progress for all- via United Nations

“Countries with more gender equality have better economic growth. Companies with more women leaders perform better. Peace agreements that include women are more durable. Parliaments with more women enact more legislation on key social issues such as health, education, anti-discrimination and child support. The evidence is clear: equality for women means progress for all.

International Women’s Day means celebrating women and girls.  It means celebrating your individuality, your contribution to the society, your community, your family.  Although it is not as widespread in the United States, there are many events held to celebrate us girls.
